Working with with interdisciplinary partners and non-profits including Seattle Children’s Hospital, Game to Grow, and foundry10, we conducted design workshops to support emotional development and agency for children in healthcare contexts.
We were able to present our findings as a workshop paper CHI 2020 (Conference on Human Factors and Computing Systems) examining virtual reality as a medium for therapeutic play in pediatric hospital settings.
During the 2020 pandemic, I facilitated and coordinated research for Telehealth for Spinal Cord Injury (TeleSCI) and the UMERAP (Understanding of Military Exposures and Research Action Priorities) research projects to improve access, quality, and safety in care delivery, especially for veterans affected by spinal cord injury and wartime toxic combat exposures.
Funded by the National Libary of Medicine (Grant R01LM013301), UnBIASED worked to create internal clinical tools for the UW Medicine and UC San Diego to support patients and future clinicians in bias-free interactions that promote healthcare access, quality, and equity.
